Ahmet Baytas is a full professor in the Department of Economics. He teaches courses in macroeconomics and microeconomics at both graduate and undergraduate levels as well as the capstone course the Advance Seminar in Economics. His recent academic research interests included economics of altruism, global portfolio management and global capital flows. Prior to joining MSU in 1988, Dr. Baytas taught at Lehman College and Hunter College. He received his PhD degree in Economics from the City University of New York and an MS in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a BA in Economics degree from the Bosporus University in Istanbul, Turkey.
Dr. Baytas is also a naturalist with passion for conservation and the environment. He has given many talks and led field trips for the public and participated in wildlife surveys. In recent years, he has authored many articles, contributed to several books and published the first field guide to the butterflies of Turkey. He has also volunteered for environmental organizations and projects in Turkey.
