Biography

Dr. Agatha E. Jeffers is a Full Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting, Law & Taxation at Montclair State University. She teaches at both the Graduate & Undergraduate levels. Courses include International Accounting & Auditing, Contemporary Issues in Financial Accounting and Accounting for Business Managers. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who worked as an auditor for a Big accounting firm in New York City. She also served for over 7 years at a very high level in the Ministry of Finance for the Governments of both Nevis and St. Kitts, where she was responsible for advising the Government on financial matters and for the Development, Regulation, Supervision & Marketing of the International Financial Services Sector. During that time, she helped to develop the sector, supervised the service providers on the island and also represented Nevis at numerous international meetings with representatives of the Central banks, OECD, FATF, CFATF, IMF, UN as well as other international governmental and non-governmental organizations. During that time, she published numerous brochures and publications on behalf of the Nevis government, including creating and editing a 232 page publication entitled "The Nevis Golden Book 2003-2004." She also worked at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), where her research was selected for presentation at an International Meeting of Central Banks at the Centre for Monetary Studies in Latin America (CEMLA) held in South America.

Dr. Agatha Jeffers also wrote a weekly column in the St. Kitts-Nevis Observer Newspaper entitled "Ask Your Financial Advisor" where she addressed questions and topics of interest to the citizens of the Eastern Caribbean.

Dr. Agatha E. Jeffers has traveled extensively (to over 80 countries) and has incorporated these experiences in her research and teaching.

Dr. Agatha E. Jeffers received formal training as a teacher in NYC and has considerable teaching experience from Kindergarten to the Graduate levels. She incorporates many dynamic & innovative techniques in her teaching which have served to generate great interest in the variety of courses that she teaches. Her teaching evaluations are consistently extremely favorable.

Dr. Jeffers' research agenda is a continuation of her dissertation on international banking issues and her prior activities in the area of financial matters. This research is concentrated in the area of international accounting, taxation, auditing and other contemporary matters such as measurement and reporting of sustainable (green) initiatives in corporations, international corporate tax inversions as well as their implications and auditor's responsibility.

Dr. Jeffers has made over 60 presentations at conferences and has published over 40 peer-reviewed publications in the past 10 years in Journals such as the CPA Journal, Today's CPA Journal, Journal of Accountability, Journal of Leadership and Ethics, National Accounting Journal, Journal of Applied Financial Research, European Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Business & Economics, International Journal of Data Analysis and Information Systems, International Journal of Decision Sciences, Practical Tax Strategies and Journal of International Taxation. In addition, she has several working papers and articles in the pipeline.

Dr. Jeffers has consistently collaborated with her colleagues. She has also worked with her students and encouraged them to undertake research activities. This has resulted in the publication of articles which have been co-authored with several of her colleagues as well as six of her students. It is her hope that students will be motivated to continue to pursue research and teaching interests in accounting and auditing in higher education.

Dr. Jeffers currently provides consulting services to Eastern Caribbean institutions in the area of offshore and international financial services. She also serves as an Editorial Reviewer on various journals and conference proceedings.

Dr. Jeffers serves the Montclair State University Community in a variety of ways. She was a member of the two SBUS Dean Search Committees which resulted in the appointment of the former and present Deans. For 8 years, she represented the African American Caucus on the President's Commission on Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity (PCAAEOD) and previously served as co-chair of the recruitment and retention committee. She served on the SBUS Curriculum Committee for 6 years, was Chair of the Accounting, Law & Taxation Department Personnel Action Committee (DPAC) and currently serve on several other Department committees. From 2007 - 2008, she served on the Global Education Grant Committee and supervised the Accounting Students in the Co-operative Education Program from 2005 - 2007. Currently, Dr. Jeffers serves as Montclair's Faculty Representative on the Change, Create Transform Foundation and for the selection of the Promise Prize Recipient.

Dr. Jeffers has received several awards and recognitions for excellence in her teaching, research and service. In 2015 and again in 2016, her research was featured in the Montclair State University's Feliciano School of Business Magazine. In 2014, she received the SBUS Palmadeso Family Faculty Research Fellowship. She has also received three (3) "Bright Idea Awards" for her Research in 2014, 2011 and 2008 from the New Jersey Business and Professional Research Organization (NJPRO). Additionally, in 2011, Dr Jeffers was awarded 2 Best Paper Awards for her conference papers co-presented with two of her SBUS colleagues.
