Dr. Christine Nakatani is currently VP Product at The Wireless Registry. A startup product strategist recently repatriated to the Alley from the Valley, Christine has launched a myriad of first products on both coasts, from Nuance Vocalizer in 2001–the world's leading text-to-speech engine (now the voice of Apple's Siri), to SmartStorePrivacy.org nine weeks ago–the world's first centralized opt-out service for wireless identifiers (the Do Not Call Registry for the wireless network).
Journeying from core software to analytics services, social media, web, mobile and the Internet of Everything, she always relies on her foundational decade of scientific training from college intern to Member of Technical Staff in the multimedia and artificial intelligence research centers at Bell Labs (AT&T and Lucent). Her first journal paper with mentor Julia Hirschberg won an outstanding journal article award for its innovative use of machine learning in 1994.
Christine earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Joint A.B. in Computer Science and in Philosophy magna cum laude, both from Harvard University, where she was named a Fulbright Scholar and NSF Graduate Research Fellow.
