Will I be able to complete all of my required coursework online? 

Yes, the Online MBA program is 100% online and all work can be completed without ever coming to campus.

Can I take some classes online and some on campus? 

The Online MBA program is designed to be purely online, so you will not be able to take classes on campus. Alternatively, Montclair State University offers a Hybrid Weekend MBA Program. View the Hybrid MBA Program details.

How will I take the online courses? 

Your coursework will be presented and facilitated via our learning management system - Canvas. Online MBA courses at Montclair State University are structured using a user-friendly web environment to provide you with all relevant course information, access to learning materials and activities, opportunities to engage and collaborate with peers and your professor, as well as assessments to enable you to demonstrate your understanding and mastery of the course. While each instructor may deliver the course content somewhat differently, there will be a common user environment for all of your courses. How long will it take to complete the Online MBA program?

Students can complete the 36 credits required for the General MBA program in 24 months and the 39 credits required for a concentration in 24 to 26 months.

Are Online MBA students required to be online at a specific time? 

Students are not required to be online at specific times. This asynchronous schedule provides you with the convenience and flexibility you need to pursue your MBA degree and still balance life's priorities.

Are there any prerequisites for the Online MBA program?

Students without prior academic coursework in Accounting, Statistics, and/or Finance, will need to successfully complete online, self-paced modules in these areas.  After successful completion of these modules, students can enroll in the online MBA program courses.

Is prior work experience required for the Online MBA Program?

Prior work experience is not required for acceptance into the Online MBA program. However, most Montclair State University MBA candidates have worked full-time for two to three years prior to applying to the program. Applicants who lack professional experience should present strong academic credentials, personal statements, and recommendations.

Is the GMAT or GRE required for the MBA program? Can the test ever be waived?

The GMAT or GRE may be waived for MBA applicants who submit proof of the following to the Graduate School:

An earned bachelor's or master's degree with a 3.0* cumulative GPA or higher (transcripts from international institutions must be evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member and need to be equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's or master's degree).  

*Applicants who have a cumulative GPA below 3.0 may contact the MBA office to request consideration for the GMAT/GRE waiver. Decisions will be made on a case by case basis.

What are the application deadlines?

There is no set application deadline for MBA admission. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis and processed as they are received. There are six starts per year for the online MBA program.

How many courses do I take at one time? How long are the courses?

During each 8-week semester, students will complete 3 credits. Two of the core MBA courses are 3 credits each, and the rest of the core courses are 1.5 credits each.  The course flow allows for multiple annual program starts and continuous course progressions.

What are the MBA application requirements for international students?

If your degree was earned outside the U.S., you must arrange for a course-by-course evaluation from a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). 

TOEFL or IELTS scores are required if your first language is not English and your degree was obtained in a country where English is not the official language. In addition, an English-language proficiency test, administered at Montclair State, is required following admittance.

Please note: international students seeking F-1 student status at Montclair State University are not eligible for the online MBA program.  If you are seeking F-1 student status, you may apply for the weeknight, face-to-face MBA program.

Does the MBA Program waive courses or grant advanced standing for prior graduate or undergraduate work?

If you cannot  demonstrate that you have satisfactorily completed academic coursework in Accounting, Statistics, and/or Finance prior to your matriculation in the Online MBA program, you will need to successfully complete self-paced, online modules in those areas prior to enrolling in MBA courses. Your eligibility for foundation module waivers will be determined upon your acceptance into the Online MBA program. Please make sure to submit official transcripts from all universities you have attended.

I work full-time: does this Online MBA program cater to part-time students?

More than 80 percent of our MBA students are fully employed professionals pursuing the MBA program on a part-time basis. The Online MBA program is ideal for individuals working full time.

What if I need to take a leave of absence?

If you need to interrupt your studies for personal or professional reasons, a leave of absence may be granted for one semester.

Is financial aid available?

Yes. Government loans are available to qualified individuals who complete the FAFSA and are enrolled in a minimum of 3 graduate credits in a specific term. Many MBA students receive some form of financial support from the companies where they are employed. Financial aid is also available via graduate assistantships and a limited number of merit-based scholarships.

Will my diploma state that I completed the degree online?

The Online MBA program courses at Montclair State University are taught by the same qualified faculty who teach on campus. Upon completion of the Online MBA program, students will be awarded the same diploma as the on-campus graduates. Neither the transcript nor the diploma will indicate "online".

May I take part in the graduation ceremony on campus if I earn my degree online? 

Yes.  You are also welcome to visit the Montclair State University campus at any time. Our beautiful campus occupies 250 acres  in the town of Montclair, New Jersey, just 14 miles from New York City.
